Problem
As a member of a local gardening association, I volunteered to help with their outdated website and visual identity. The website was the main priority, as it contains all the important information for the 200 members, and it was not very functional. The problem was that there was no budget dedicated to this goal, so the development also had to be simple enough for me to handle with no additional cost of Webflow or a developer.
Solution
Working closely with the board, I created a content structure for the website that would be as easy to understand as possible, bearing in mind that most members are elderly and may struggle with overly complex technology. I designed a new logo and branding, and created a simple WordPress website.

The result is a clean, simple, well-structured website that could serve as an example for other associations. The branding is cohesive across the website, print materials, stamps, and graphics. Members can finally find all the documents and information they need.
Before
The previous website was poorly structured and lacked information. The user journey to find the most important documents was not well thought through. The design was also outdated and branding very random.
Logo & branding
The previous logo featured birch leaves to reflect the association's name – White Birch. I wanted to keep that element. I also decided to add some animals that are often seen in the area, to make the logo even more personalised. The colour scheme retains the previous green, but with completely new shades.
Website design & development
My aim was to create a simple WordPress website that I could build myself. There was no need for anything fancy, especially given the target audience. Using the popular TwentyTwentyFour WordPress template with some customisations worked really well.
